At Optima Camel View Village, Steel Frame Alliance provided Structural Engineer of Record (SER) services and managed the entire Division 3 and Division 5 work for this 11 building, 2,100,000 square foot condominium project in Scottsdale, Ariz. The full integration of the structural team allowed the design side and construction side to fast track the design-build process. By locking in steel material orders very early in the design process, and starting a concurrent steel detailing effort, the fabrication was able to begin almost immediately after drawings were Issued for Construction. To maintain the architectural height requirements, the structural depth was strictly limited even for the extensive project cantilevers. Custom three plate shapes were designed to meet the requirements at the largest cantilevers up to twenty feet.

At the greenfield Drake Cement plant in Paulden, Ariz., Steel Frame Alliance provided detailing, steel procurement, fabrication, and delivery for a 1,000 metric ton steel package. This package included process ductwork and support steel for the Finish Mill, Raw Mill, and Kiln sections of the plant along with dedusting, cyclones, crusher chutes, and hoppers. The fabrication was performed at two plants simultaneously to meet the client schedule.

Lyons Salt Company looked to replace an aging headframe to plan for future operational capacity increases. The headframe is the pulse of this business, so minimizing downtime is critical. Steel Frame Alliance provided a pre-installation plus heavy lift installation strategy in order to meet the tight shutdown schedule. To ensure the longevity of the system in a corrosive salt environment, a 3 coat epoxy paint system was applied with a total of 20mil thickness. The bin, ladders, and handrails were all made from stainless steel to increase longevity. Critical areas were shop assembled for dimensional verification prior to shipping to paint. Other components were shop assembled oversized assemblies up to 16’-4” wide to eliminate field bolting at areas of heavy salt buildup.

At the Hallmark Distribution Center in Liberty, Mo., Steel Frame Alliance provided a design-build installation of a new mezzanine to increase space within the facility. Work was performed around the existing operations, to add the 62,000 square foot mezzanine including the steel framing, concrete slab on metal deck, and the access stairs.

This luxury condominium development consists of seven buildings with 220 units, ranging from 1,600 to 3,000 sq. ft. Structural steel erection began five weeks following the start of design, cutting four months off the project schedule. The model unit was open seven months following the notice to proceed on the building design. Constructive Engineering Design’s scope of services included architectural design, engineering, and the work of all building trades.
